Peter D. Holt, President & Chief Executive Officer
Peter D. Holt has been active in the franchise community for over 30 years, managing franchise systems in domestic and international markets.
Prior to joining The Joint in April 2016, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tasti D-Lite LLC. During his tenure there, Holt transformed the NYC-based licensed outlets into a complete business format franchise system and in 2011, led the acquisition of Planet Smoothie and its integration into the Tasti D-Lite business.
Over the years, Holt held various management positions with franchised companies including working for Mail Boxes, Etc. for seven years, first heading up international franchise development and ultimately taking over domestic franchise development and national account sales. MBE (now The UPS Store) is the world’s largest franchisor of retail centers specializing in shipping, business and communications services. Additionally, Holt has held positions at Brice Foods, Inc., Great Hills Partners and International Franchise Association.
He served on the International Franchise Association (IFA) Board of Directors from 2013 to 2015 and as Chairman of the International Affairs Network (IAN) of the IFA from 1998 to 2007.
Holt earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of London and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Washington, where he graduated cum laude.
John Meloun, Chief Financial Officer
John Meloun has been with The Joint since March of 2015, serving as the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis. He has 17 years of finance experience in a variety of industries, including aerospace and defense, telecommunications, higher education and healthcare. John graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s degree in finance and later returned to ASU to obtain his MBA.
Donna Smith, Vice President of Marketing
Donna Smith joined The Joint corporate team as the Vice President of Marketing in February 2016. She brought with her 20 years of marketing experience acquired from a variety of iconic brands, primarily in franchise/licensee systems like Arby’s, Oreck and La-Z-Boy. Donna holds an MBA. in Marketing from Indiana University, where she also earned her undergraduate degree in business with a minor in communication. She graduated No. 1 in her class at Indiana University’s School of Business. Donna was drawn to marketing and sales from an early age, starting her marketing career while she was in elementary school by weaving customized potholders to sell door-to-door in order to supplement her 50 cent per week allowance. She has a passion for retail marketing, the study of consumer behavior and working with franchisees to help build their businesses.
Eric Simon, Vice President of Franchise Sales & Development
Eric Simon has 20 years of franchise experience with brands such as AAMCO, FRANdata and Mail Boxes Etc./The UPS Store. He also spent five years as an area developer and franchisee for Extreme Pita. Eric received his Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from the University of Rhode Island.
Brian Markus, Director of Franchise Development
Brian Markus joined The Joint team in January 2013 as a Franchise Sales Consultant. In October, 2016, he began managing the real estate department’s site selection process as well as the integration of the mapping and customer analytics software. As the Director of Franchise Sales, Brian is now the primary contact for those interested in franchising with The Joint. He has over 15 years of experience as a licensed real estate professional focused primarily on investment sales, leasing and asset management. Prior to that he spent five years in the computer software sales industry. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology with a minor in marketing from Cal Polytech in San Luis Obispo, California. Brian enjoys spending time with his wife Melissa, and their two children, 12-year-old Lauren, and 8-year-old Spencer.
Richard Matthews, Director, GIS & Customer Analytics
Richard Matthews joined The Joint team in December 2014 as Director of GIS and Customer Analytics. His primary responsibilities are evaluating real estate locations for The Joint clinics and determining which types of demographics and shopping center characteristics help clinics perform better. Richard has a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin. He also holds both a Masters of Arts and a PhD in geography from Arizona State University. Prior to joining The Joint, he managed the real estate research team, and helped build 700 stores at PetSmart. Matthews was previously a professor of geography at the University of South Carolina, where his expertise was the location of business.
Richard has authored a book on manufacturing location and has published several peer reviewed journal articles on the causal mechanisms of site selection. He currently serves as an elected representative of the North American Research Advisory Task Force of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Richard likes to barbecue and recently won a chili cook-off using his recipe of smoked pork ribs and six types of roasted peppers.
