Ice cream and chiropractic care aren’t often mentioned in the same sentence, though for Paul Trindle, those completely different industries shaped his entire life as an entrepreneur.
Trindle began his career as an entrepreneur with Cold Stone Creamery, the iconic ice cream chain based in Scottsdale, Arizona. After many years with the brand and opening multiple Cold Stone Creamery locations in North Carolina, Trindle wasn’t looking for an opportunity that would take him away from his profitable, fun businesses. But as the saying goes: Once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur.
“The Joint is also based in Scottsdale, and when you’re in franchising, you meet other people in franchising very quickly,” Trindle says. “A colleague made me aware of The Joint, and at first, I thought, ‘Chiropractic care, really?’ This was several years ago now, long before The Joint took off on a national scale. Once I visited a few of the clinics and learned more about the business model, it became pretty clear that this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
After deciding to become a franchisee with The Joint, Trindle made use of his franchisor’s robust real-estate support to find an ideal location in Greensboro, North Carolina. Real estate is especially important to the success of The Joint’s business model, as the brand places its clinics in high-end shopping centers, next to popular destinations such as grocery stores and coffee shops. To keep rents low for franchisees, The Joint fits in a small footprint, and its simple buildout allows franchisees to open their doors quickly.
Trindle found The Joint clinics far easier to manage than his ice cream businesses. You only need three or four people, including the doctor, to staff a clinic. And those employees are typically professional and career-oriented. As time went by, Trindle sold off the majority of his ice cream businesses to open more clinics with The Joint.
“The Joint is far more simple to open and manage than a food business,” Trindle says. “I often joke that it causes a lot less brain damage. At my ice cream businesses I’m dealing with teenagers, who can be flaky, late and unprofessional. At The Joint, it’s completely the opposite. Your staff shares the same purpose you do, which is to help people get the care they need.”

This is true of all of our clinics, as over 4 million people visited The Joint last year. In my region, North Carolina and Tennessee, we performed over 32,000 adjustments last month. The fact that we’re growing across the country is great for our brand, but it also means we’re able to help more people find relief from pain. It’s very humbling and rewarding to be a part of it.”
Trindle serves as the Regional Developer for North Carolina and has helped open 21 clinics in the Tar Heel State. Last month, he and fellow multi-unit franchisee Chad Eades became Regional Developers for Tennessee. Their intimate knowledge of how to run and grow profitable clinics will be a vital resource for new franchisees in Tennessee.
