Why Own The Joint Chiropractic Franchise?
Chiropractors with existing clinics can thrive and prosper with The Joint’s simple business model
When The Joint Chiropractic was founded in 1999, it was called a disruptor to the traditional chiropractic industry. Nearly 20 years later, The Joint is part of the mainstream chiropractic landscape and is helping to expand the reach of chiropractic care to more people than ever before.
In June 2020, The Joint boasts over 530 locations; this milestone is bolstered by an aggressive growth strategy that will see the brand reaching for 1,000 locations by the end of 2023. The reasons for the rapid growth are simple: The Joint is a much easier business model to run than traditional clinics. Because of it’s cash-only model, The Joint sees more patients and generates more income on average than traditional chiropractic clinics.
“The Joint is transforming the way chiropractic care is being delivered in this country,” says Peter Holt, CEO of The Joint. “We’re a disruptor. We’ve taken our model directly to retail settings — our clinics are next to brands like Chipotle and Starbucks. We’re easy, convenient and accessible to consumers; there’s no insurance necessary, there’s no appointment necessary. A regular customer can walk into any franchise location and get an adjustment done in five minutes. We’re the largest umbrella of chiropractic clinics in the world, and we’re only getting started.
What makes The Joint easier to run than a traditional clinic?
The Joint is a very different concept than traditional chiropractic clinics. For starters, the brand’s clinics are in highly visible retail settings, next to coffee shops and supermarkets. The Joint’s patients already go to the places where our clinics are, and because we encourage walk-ins, do not take appointments, and are open on nights and weekends, our patients have access to chiropractic care when they need it — and they can be treated and out the door in less than 15 minutes.
How do we do it? The Joint only offers one service: spinal adjustments conducted by hand. Most importantly, our membership model does away with the need for insurance — and our memberships are valid at any of our more than 530 locations nationwide. This means that there is no chasing down insurance companies for payment. The Joint’s patients pay monthly on a membership plan or pay at the counter for a single visit.
This simple business model is enormously effective at allowing franchisees to scale up to multi-unit agreements. The ongoing overhead is extremely low, requiring zero inventory and only a small staff to begin operations. This allows the owners to reap more of the rewards of being in business.
“I truly believe that The Joint is the future of chiropractic care,” says Dr. Tim McKinley, owner of The Joint franchise clinic in Houston, Texas. “The coolest thing for me as the chiropractor and the owner of my clinic is the concept, the business model. The patients love it. It’s created from their perspective. It meets their wants and needs. When you go into an environment where the customer is happy about where they are and the services they’re receiving, it’s a great place to be. It’s much more pleasant to come to work at a place like that than at a traditional chiropractic care practice, where the majority of your time is spent dealing with attorneys and insurance companies. I honestly cannot foresee the traditional chiropractic care clinic lasting much longer. With The Joint, a chiropractor can devote his or her energies to helping people in a friendlier environment for the patient and doctor.”
