The Joint Chiropractic Franchise in Tampa Celebrates Second Year in Business
The fastest-growing chiropractic franchise is helping meet a growing demand for holistic care in Tampa, Florida
When an entrepreneur decides to franchise with The Joint Chiropractic, the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, they are deciding to own a business that makes a real, lasting difference.
It is often the case that our entrepreneurs were helped by chiropractic care themselves, or overcame serious medical obstacles and decided to open a business that would allow them to pay it forward. This is the case of Alex Pierroutsakos, owner of The Joint clinic in Tampa, Florida, which just celebrated its second year in business.

In a terrific new feature article published by Neighborhood News, entitled, “The Joint Chiropractic Center Offers Affordable Relief for Your Pain!” Alex gets a chance to tell his story in detail:
Given the potential for abuse of and addiction to opioids, Alex Pierroutsakos was determined after losing his arm in a serious car accident at the age of 23 not to become reliant on them.
So, to manage his pain, he searched for alternatives, such as exercise, diet, massage therapy and chiropractic care.
“Those are the four things that have helped me get myself to be able to live my healthy, active life,” Alex says.
While the first three of the four things were readily accessible, Alex found that finding good, affordable and available chiropractic care wasn’t. It inspired him to open The Joint Chiropractic Center in New Tampa.
Neighborhood News reports that Alex’s location has more than 400 members, who benefit from the affordable, convenient and revolutionary access to chiropractic care his business provides. Not surprisingly, Alex discovered that his patient base is wide, ranging from Baby Boomers to High School athletes, all of whom love the fact that they can show up to The Joint without an appointment and get exceptional care in minutes.
“I would say the majority of our patients come in with some level of back and neck pain,” Alex says in the article. “After that, people come because of headaches, or problems with an extremity, like a knee, ankle or shoulder.”
“We actually help a lot of young people, like cheerleaders and football players,” he continues in the article. “There’s a tremendous amount of study around ankle and leg adjustments to prevent injury for football players and other athletes. When my chiropractor does my ankles, holy cow…because I exercise and run a lot, the amount of build-up onto that ankle is unbelievable. It’s a significant adjustment.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Dazzles in the Desert at 2019 Annual Convention
The fastest-growing chiropractic franchise celebrates brand milestones at annual conference
The Joint Chiropractic, the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, celebrated a monumental year of success and robust future during its annual convention, which recently took place in Scottsdale, Arizona. The convention theme, “Real People, Real Results,” highlighted the positive impact that The Joint clinics have on their patients and proved that strong support for franchisees remains a top priority.

“Our annual convention served as a reminder of how remarkable our franchise system truly is, including the chiropractors that routinely change patients’ lives,” says Peter D. Holt, President and CEO of The Joint Corp. “The successes that we have seen over the last three years, and the wonderful opportunities we have ahead of us, are the direct result of the support and dedication that is put into every clinic by every franchisee. We’re stronger today because of the dedication of the entire The Joint franchise network.”
This year’s convention celebrated company-wide accomplishments during 2018, and challenged all attendees – franchisees, chiropractors, corporate leadership and vendors – to continue to exceed expectations, lead by example and bring quality and affordable chiropractic care to patients everywhere. The three-day convention included a number of discussions and seminars focused on major brand priorities, such as growth plans, patient care, chiropractor recruitment and retention, and other initiatives for continued success.
During the general sessions, Holt discussed that the company opened 47 clinics in 2018 and opened 14 clinics in the first quarter of 2019, compared to seven in the first quarter of 2018. Likewise, in 2018 The Joint signed 99 franchise development licenses. Through April 30, 2019, the company sold another 60 franchise development licenses, building a healthy pipeline of new locations primarily through a thriving regional developer program.
Also signaling the strength of the company, annual system-wide gross revenue grew 30 percent from 2017 to 2018 – among the best of all U.S. brands situated in retail environments. In 2018, 79 percent of the gross revenue was contributed by The Joint’s monthly membership program, highlighting the loyalty patients are showing for The Joint and its services.
Even with The Joint’s robust growth and expansion, Holt acknowledged that there is an expansive opportunity for continued success. The company is in position to further inform and meet the needs of Americans for natural pain relief and wellness. Out of all patients seen by The Joint in 2018, 26 percent of them were new to chiropractic care.
Rounding out the gathering was the illustrious awards ceremony. The Joint bestowed honors on top-performing franchisees, chiropractors and additional team members in attendance for a number of achievements, including:
- Wellness Coordinator of the Year – Monica Woodall: Raleigh, North Carolina
- Chiropractor of the Year – Dr. Jim Handzel: Phoenix, Arizona
- Professional Corporation (PC) of the Year – Dr. Kim Sahagun: Southern California
- Rookie Franchisee of the Year – Kane Ali: Jacksonville, Florida
- Regional Developer of the Year – Anne and David Glover: Austin, Dallas, San Antonio & Houston, Texas
- Franchisee of the Year – Teresa and Tony Giuseppe: Phoenix, Arizona
“Over the years, our main goal has been to make a profound impact on people’s lives,” Holt says. “Hearing patient and franchise member success stories is a humbling experience and remains proof that, as a team, we’re really making a positive difference.” The Joint Chiropractic is the nation’s largest network of non-insurance, private pay chiropractic health care clinics in the United States. It’s known for its no-appointment, no-insurance and no-hassle concierge-style service. The Joint’s modern membership model allows patients seeking quality pain relief and prevention to customize ongoing treatment plans or receive routine chiropractic exams, as prescribed by their chiropractor. Plus, patients can use their membership at any of The Joint Chiropractic clinics nationwide.

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Named to Franchise Gator’s Top 100 List
The fastest growing chiropractic franchise in the nation jumps up 15 spots on prestigious annual list

Franchise Gator, a leading resource for prospective franchisees, announced that The Joint Chiropractic® has been named to its annual list of top 100 franchise companies. The list, titled “Top 100 Franchises of 2019,” ranked hundreds of participating franchise companies based on their overall performance over the last 12 months. The Joint was ranked 42nd, up 15 spots from its ranking on the list last year.
The award validates the progress The Joint has made in the past year. In 2018, the brand added more than 47 clinics, bringing the total to 442 clinics to communities throughout the United States.
“This award is a great benchmark of success for our business,” says Peter Holt, President and CEO of The Joint Chiropractic. “We look forward to continuing this momentum throughout 2019, as we provide even more communities across the country with affordable, accessible chiropractic care.”
The Franchise Gator Top 100 Franchises of 2019 list measures the quality of a franchise system over time based on financial stability, growth, transparency, engagement, continuity and sustainability. The ranking also evaluates investment range and franchise industry. The list includes three categories: Top 100 Franchises, Fastest Growing Franchises and Top Emerging Franchises.
Franchise Gator collected and evaluated data based on various pieces of the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) that focus on financial stability, growth, transparency, engagement, continuity and sustainability. Hundreds of FDDs were studied in 2018 to establish the ranking from 2019.
“Strong growth is one of many areas a prospective franchisee can look at when evaluating a franchise brand,” says Eric Bell, General Manager at Franchise Gator. “Total unit count is important as every franchise company’s mission is to increase their footprint as it makes the whole system much healthier.”
The Joint is reinventing access to chiropractic care by making it convenient and affordable for patients seeking pain relief and ongoing wellness. They don’t require appointments or health insurance and are open evenings and weekends. By welcoming walk-ins and strategically placing locations near high-traffic shopping centers, grocery stores and retail areas, patients have easier access to their clinics and can seamlessly visit a licensed chiropractor without disrupting their daily lives.
Additionally, The Joint’s unique membership model allows patients to customize their ongoing treatment or take part in preventative care on a weekly basis. Plus, patients can use their membership at any clinic nationwide while maintaining their continuity of care. Through pain management and ongoing treatment plans, The Joint and its doctors operate with a noble purpose to change the way people live their lives.

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Is Combating the Opioid Crisis
The fastest-growing chiropractic franchise offers drug-free relief from pain as an alternative to prescription pain medication

The opioid epidemic is a national crisis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that one out of every four patients struggles with addiction after being prescribed pain medication for non-cancer treatments. With the terrible effects of opioid addiction now widely known, the medical industry is recommending chiropractic care as an alternative to pain medication — and people are listening.
For the franchise owners of The Joint, the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, the ability to help people in need is the most meaningful part of the business:
“I love being in the wellness space,” says Jeff McGinty, a multi-unit franchisee with The Joint in Atlanta, Georgia. “I love waking up and wondering how many lives we’re going to change today. It’s not a question of if we’re going to change lives — it’s a question of how many.”
The research is in: chiropractic care is an effective drug-free alternative to addictive medication
In a recent article published by the American Chiropractic Association, titled, “Chiropractic and the Opioid Epidemic: Rethinking Our Approach to Pain,” the research in the effectiveness of chiropractic care is well-established and is causing a change in approach by the medical industry at large:
In 2017, the American College of Physicians (ACP) updated its guidelines for the treatment of acute and chronic low back pain to recommend first using non-invasive, non-drug treatments before resorting to drug therapies.
In March 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines for prescribing opioids that also promote non-pharmacologic alternatives for the treatment of chronic pain.
In 2015, the Joint Commission, the organization that accredits more than 20,000 health care systems in the U.S., including every major hospital, recognized the value of non-drug approaches by adding chiropractic and acupuncture to its pain management standard.*
For chiropractors at The Joint, treating patients coping with the opioid epidemic is a daily concern
In a moving article published recently in the Aiken Standard, “For Many, Opioid Addiction Starts with Chronic Pain,” journalist Kristina Rackley begins with: “Opioid addiction is an increasingly widespread problem in Aiken.”
In an effort to help readers understand that there are other options beyond paid medication to ease pain, she interviews Dr. Jerry Odom, a chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic franchise in Aiken, S.C. Odom says that “30 percent of Americans live with some sort of chronic pain,” and that is the root of the problem.
“Most people, when they’re in pain, they go to the ER or their primary care provider,” Odom says in the article. “Most often they get prescription opioids or muscle relaxers … We adjust the structural dysfunction in the body, allowing it to heal itself, which more often than not erases the need for opioids all together.”
Odom, as the doctor, experiences how chiropractic care changes lives for the better on a daily basis:
“I just had a patient come in yesterday … She’s had chronic neck pain and low back pain for years, and has been taking several different types of pain relievers,” Odom says in the article. “She reported to me yesterday that she hadn’t taken anything in eight days.”

The Joint Chiropractic Partners with Sherman College of Chiropractic
The fastest-growing chiropractic franchise makes a significant investment to provide educational and employment opportunities for students

In 2018, The Joint Chiropractic, the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, has won significant mainstream recognition from the $16 billion chiropractic industry. In January, The Joint Chiropractic celebrated the opening of its 400th location. In June, The Joint’s Director of Chiropractic and Compliance, Dr. Steven Knauf, was appointed to the American Chiropractic Association’s prestigious Committee on Quality Assurance and Accountability.
Now, The Joint Chiropractic is partnering with Sherman College of Chiropractic to support the renovation of their campus. Over the next five years, The Joint Chiropractic has committed to donating $150,000 to help maintain a world-class educational experience for their students. The institution will be naming the school’s main lobby for The Joint Chiropractic.
“We are thrilled to partner with Sherman College because of its focus on teaching the art, philosophy and science of chiropractic to its students,” says Peter Holt, The Joint Chiropractic’s President and CEO. “The school is a leader in developing students who become extremely skilled, knowledgeable and passionate chiropractors who seek to improve lives through chiropractic care.”
The Joint Chiropractic is the largest employer of chiropractors in the nation and recently unveiled a program to help make their path to ownership easier than ever. By providing a business model that allows chiropractors to focus on what they love — helping patients heal — and be mentored by existing franchisees, The Joint is helping chiropractors develop the skill sets they need to run successful and prosperous businesses.
It is fitting, then, that The Joint’s commitment to chiropractic care should extend to the next generation of chiropractors at Sherman College.
“Sherman College and The Joint share a vision of helping others and changing the world through chiropractic,” says Edwin Cordero, D.C., President of Sherman College. “We are thankful for The Joint’s support of our institution’s mission and values, and we look forward to partnering with them as we continue our mission of educating highly skilled, compassionate and successful chiropractors.”
Founded in 1999, The Joint Chiropractic is leading the way in making chiropractic care a convenient and affordable part of health and wellness for millions of people seeking relief from back, neck and joint pain. As a result, The Joint can treat many more patients than a traditional chiropractic clinic by a large margin. According to the brand’s most recent Franchise Disclosure Document, The Joint reported weekly patient visits that were 152 percent higher [AG1] than those at independently-owned clinics.
“The need for great chiropractors will continue to increase as more patients choose chiropractic care to improve their function and, more importantly, live healthier lives,” says Dr. Steven Knauf, D.C., Director of Chiropractic for The Joint. “Because of this, The Joint is proud to support Sherman College of Chiropractic, which is dedicated to the education of these future professionals.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Opens First Clinic in Oklahoma
The fastest-growing chiropractic franchise celebrates the opening
of first clinic in the Sooner State
The Joint, the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, recently announced the opening of its first-ever location in Oklahoma. The new clinic is open in Edmond, a city that’s part of the booming Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area.
The Edmond Sun ran a story that began like this: “The days of dealing with chronic back pain, neck pain and migraines will soon be a thing of the past for some Edmond residents who choose to visit a new business.”

The cause for celebration goes far beyond how The Joint makes chiropractic care more accessible and more affordable than the citizens of Edmond have experienced before.
Founded in 1999, The Joint is ushering in a new era of the $15 billion chiropractic industry by placing clinics in highly visible retail settings — next to supermarkets and coffee shops. The Joint only offers walk-in spinal alignments, conducted by hand. Its gym-style membership model does away with the need for insurance. As a result, The Joint can treat patients in as little as 15 minutes — easy for visits to fit in between shopping trips on the weekends or on commutes home from work.
The publication reports that Dr. Matt Dreadfulwater, who operates four franchise clinics in Dallas and Fort Worth, is operating the clinic in Edmond.
“Chiropractic care is an important aspect of any health and wellness routine. Everyday activities, such as sitting at a desk all day or constantly looking down to check our phones, take a toll on our bodies — especially our back, shoulders and neck. A key to preventing and managing pain is routine chiropractic adjustments,” Dreadfulwater says in the article. “The Joint removes the hassle of insurance and booking appointments, making it more convenient for patients in Edmond to maintain a chiropractic care regimen.”

NFL Star Invests in The Joint Chiropractic Franchise
The fastest-growing chiropractic franchise welcomes celebrity owner to The Joint
The Joint, the fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, ought to consider opening its own Hall of Fame for athletes turned entrepreneurs. The Joint has already welcomed former Major League Baseball player Rob Quinlan, who has opened multiple locations in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Now, The Joint is pleased to welcome current star of the National Football League and linebacker with The New York Jets Kevin Minter, who is due to open two new locations in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Minter, who graduated from an Atlanta-area high school, is opening the two locations with his business partner and local attorney, Walter Booth, in the areas of Duluth and Peachtree Road in the summer of 2018.

“There are countless benefits that can come from improving spinal and joint function, the most important being a healthier, more comfortable daily life,” Minter says in a news release. “Providing our communities with the chiropractic care they need is going to be easier than ever before. I look forward to helping those suffering from pain to get relief, and to provide continual, preventative treatments to assist in ensuring happy, healthy lifestyles.”
As an NFL star, Minter already is familiar with the benefits of chiropractic care. A few years ago, the Professional Football Chiropractic Society announced that they would be providing services to all 32 teams in the NFL. With major stars such as Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, Lance Moore, Jerry Rice and others on board with the cause, chiropractic care is making a real impact in the lives of NFL athletes.
As franchisees with The Joint, Minter and Booth now can deliver affordable and accessible chiropractic care to their communities.
“From the first time I visited one of The Joint’s clinics, I knew it was exactly what was needed in Duluth and Peachtree Corners,” Booth says in a news release. “Kevin and I both have a true passion for wellness and are proud to introduce Gwinnett County to all that The Joint has to offer.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Review: Meet Chad Eads
How an entrepreneur went from owning ice cream shops to becoming
the Regional Developer of Tennessee with the fastest-growing chiropractic franchise
How does an entrepreneur go from owning multiple ice cream shops to owning multiple chiropractic clinics? For Chad Eads, a multi-unit franchisee with The Joint, the answer is simpler than you may think: a savvy entrepreneur goes after a good opportunity when it comes along.

Based in Asheville, North Carolina, Chad Eads began his career as an entrepreneur with the Cold Stone Creamery franchise. The ice cream franchise has done enormously well for Eads, who owns six Cold Stone Creamery locations from Asheville to Southern Georgia. When Paul Trindle, another Cold Stone Creamery franchise owner, mentioned that he was investing in a new chiropractic franchise, Eads was immediately interested.
“Asheville is a town that is very focused on health and wellness, and alternative medicine is mainstream here,” Eads says. “When Paul introduced me to the concept, and he showed me how simple it was to own and operate the business, it was a no-brainer. I knew that I was going to invest in this business and open a clinic in Asheville.”
The secret to The Joint’s ongoing success is that the business model is extremely simple to understand. This is by design. Unlike traditional chiropractic clinics, The Joint places its locations in popular destinations — next to retail stores, restaurants and supermarkets. The Joint doesn’t accept insurance, which also does away with the need to chase insurance companies for payment. Instead, The Joint encourages walk-in appointments and offers a gym-like membership model. Most importantly, patients can be treated in 15 minutes or less because The Joint only offers one service: spinal adjustments performed by hand.
“The Joint’s business model is a breeze compared to my ice cream businesses,” Eads says. “In The Joint, your small staff is made up of professionals who are completely aligned in the mission to provide the best customer service and the best treatment for the patient. In my ice cream business, I often joke that it causes brain damage, because you’re dealing with teenagers who show up late, you’re dealing with food and inventory. Compared to that, The Joint is incredibly easy to own.”

As the owner of multiple clinics with The Joint, Eads experiences what so many of the brand’s franchise owners experience on a month-to-month basis: The Joint is far more profitable than a traditional chiropractic clinic. According to The Joint’s most recent Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), the 253 franchise clinics open in 2016 experienced nearly 28 percent growth in average gross sales from 2015, bringing the number to $320,765.
“Every month in business is better than the month before,” Eads says. “If there is a ceiling, we have not hit it yet. The Joint is really making access to chiropractic care more affordable and more accessible than ever before, and we’ve experienced this at our clinics in Asheville.”
In order to help more entrepreneurs find success with The Joint, Eads and Trindle forged a partnership to become the new Regional Developers for The Joint in Tennessee. Eads and Trindles’ shared knowledge of the brand’s business model, and their active ownership in multiple clinics, as well as proximity to Tennessee, makes them ideally suited to grow The Joint in the Volunteer State.
“The amount of wide open territory in Tennessee is an enormous opportunity for entrepreneurs who are passionate about health and wellness,” Eads says. “This business not only has the potential to yield financial rewards, an owner can take pride in the knowledge that their business is actively, meaningfully impacting people in their community who are desperate to find relief from ongoing pain. It is a powerful business to be a part of, and the level of interest we’re experiencing from entrepreneurs in Tennessee is evident of the fact that The Joint will be growing rapidly in the state for years to come.”

The Joint Chiropractic Named Best Health Care Franchise
‘Entrepreneur’ magazine names fastest-growing chiropractic franchise as the best franchise opportunity in the health care segment
The Joint, the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise, was recently named best health care franchise opportunity by Entrepreneur magazine as part of their annual ranking of the top franchises by category. This is the second consecutive year The Joint has been honored with this distinction.
The list is compiled with the extensive data used to determine the magazine’s “Franchise 500,” widely regarded as the preeminent franchise ranking system. The magazine provides entrepreneurs with the franchise systems that are “at the peak of their industry,” with their “Simply the Best: The Top Franchises in 110 Categories.”

“With more than 1,000 companies applying for the 2018 Entrepreneur Franchise 500, just getting on our list was an achievement,” the publication states. “But some companies rose even higher above the rest, claiming the highest ranking in their category.” The 2018 Franchise 500 rankings, from which this list is derived, are determined by an evaluation of more than 150 data points in the areas of costs and fees, size and growth, franchisee support, brand strength and financial strength and stability.”
The Joint recently celebrated 400 locations open across the country, a milestone that few franchise systems reach. This speaks to the long-term viability of the brand — the explosive growth that The Joint is experiencing is the direct result of the brand’s making access to chiropractic care more affordable and accessible than ever before. The Joint also has opened up the possibility of owning a chiropractic clinic to entrepreneurs who have no experience in the chiropractic industry.
“We’re extremely honored to be named as the No. 1 health care franchise by Entrepreneur magazine,” says Eric Simon, Vice President of Franchise Sales & Development with The Joint. “This is a transformative business in two ways. The Joint has completely disrupted the way chiropractic care is delivered by making it more affordable and more convenient for consumers, and The Joint is a business model with high profit potential that provides entrepreneurs with a chance to provide a meaningful service in their community. This is why The Joint is the fastest-growing chiropractic franchise in the nation and why we’re going to continue to grow well into the future.”
