Forbes Names The Joint Chiropractic Franchise “One of America’s Best Small Companies”

Premier business publication ranks the fast-growing chiropractic franchise high on the list of wise investment opportunities

Forbes magazine, the premier business publication, recently published their list of “America’s Best Small Companies,” and we’re proud to report that The Joint Chiropractic chiropractor franchises made the cut.

Coming in at No. 13, The Joint Chiropractic® was named to the list based on our strong sales growth over the past 12 months – a period of time that was dominated by the challenges of the global pandemic. The fact that The Joint was able to quickly rebound as an essential business, meet the needs of patients across the country, as well as continue to open new clinics coast to coast, is a strong indicator of the strength of The Joint Chiropractic’s proven business model

The Joint Chiropractor Franchises Forbes 2021 America's Best Small Companies

“Forbes’ list of America’s Best Small-Cap Companies was compiled using data from FactSet,” the magazine writes. “We screened for companies with a market value between $300 million and $2 billion, positive sales growth over the past 12 months, and a share price of at least $5. Financial institutions, REITs, utilities, and limited partnerships were excluded as were companies public for less than one year.”

“The rankings are based on earnings growth and sales growth for the latest 12 months and over 5 years, one-year and 5-year return on equity and 52-week total return,” Forbes continues. “We gave more weight to the latest-12 month and 1-year data in the ranking. All data is as of November 25, 2020.”

Of the 50 companies listed, The Joint Chiropractic is the only chiropractic franchise to be included on the list, which shows the strength of our concept and our dominance in the market. Forbes reports that The Joint Chiropractic experienced a 36.5% ROI for investors over the time researched to compile the list as well as generated $55.5 million in revenue for the same period of time.

“We couldn’t be prouder to be named one of America’s best small companies by Forbes magazine,” says Peter Holt, President and CEO of The Joint Chiropractic. “This is strong validation of our concept, our franchise model, and the work that our operators do to help people find a holistic approach to pain management. We project that 2021 will be an even stronger year for our brand.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Owner and NFL Athlete Talks Investing in Wellness

The Joint Chiropractic® influences life and career in “Lift U Up” podcast with Tamika Bickham

As an NFL linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kevin Minter knows a lot about aches and pains. His tenure in the NFL has led him to be passionate about chiropractic care in order to keep healthy – which made him a perfect fit to invest in The Joint Chiropractic franchise.

The Joint was founded in 1999, with a mission to improve the quality of life through affordable and convenient access to chiropractic care. Minter’s passion for health & wellness as an NFL superstar was in perfect alignment with The Joint’s mission.

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Kevin Minter and Tamika Bickham podcast

Minter currently owns two franchise clinics in the Atlanta market and now, he is ready to expand into South Florida. To discuss his growth plans, passion for chiropractic care, and why he invested in The Joint, Minter recently appeared on “Lift U Up,” a podcast hosted by Tamika Bickham, an award-winning TV journalist.

“We picked a territory in South Florida because we know those communities are focused on health and wellness,” Minter explains. “When I started to understand the franchise system, I wished I had done it sooner. It’s a straightforward business that’s affordable to own and I was giving back to my community.”

On the podcast, Minter explains how chiropractic care has helped him personally, helping him heal from injuries and keep him game ready. As a franchise owner with The Joint, Minter now gets to spread the benefits of chiropractic care, helping people heal from the back and neck pain that is limiting their quality of life.

“Chiropractic care has been essential to my training and my wellness,” Minter reveals. Investing with The Joint was personal to him. It is an investment for your future well-being and not only as it relates to business. “As your body ages, it becomes more about movement and maintaining strength, whereas it used to be all about building muscle,” he admits. Jokingly, he says “NFL” should also stand for “Not For Long,” because he knows he can’t play this game forever.

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Expands Reach With New Clinics in Kentucky

The largest chiropractic franchise in the nation continues its expansion with new clinics to open before the end of 2020

Despite a challenging year, The Joint Chiropractic® continues its pace as one of the fastest growing chiropractic franchises in the nation. Recently, the company announced that it is expanding to Kentucky.

With more than 500 locations across the country, The Joint has grown by revolutionizing access to chiropractic care. For two decades, our chiropractic franchise has earned a reputation for our convenient retail setting and concierge-style services, which means no appointments or insurance hassles, as well as accommodating hours of operation and, most importantly, affordable chiropractic care for patients.

New franchise owners, Carla Stampfli and her son, Jonathan Stampfli, plan to open three new clinics in Lexington, while Barry Goodman and Taylor Abrams — who serve as part of The Joint’s R&D team — have plans for one clinic in Bowling Green, Kentucky. All clinics will be opened and operated through chiropractic corporations authorized to practice in Kentucky, and all clinics are slated to open by the end of 2021.

The Joint franchise front desk

For nearly three years, the Stampfli family has searched for the right business opportunity to invest in. They had almost given up hope until Jonathan visited a childhood friend in St. Louis, who recently graduated from Logan University, and now works as a substitute doctor of chiropractic for The Joint

“After my friend encouraged me to look into The Joint’s business model, I was impressed by the look and feel of it,” says Jonathan Stampfli. “The more I researched The Joint, I loved the fact that it was focused on wellness. The fact that patients could come on a regular basis to stay healthy, so they didn’t have pain, was amazing to me.”

Carla Stampfli says she was “over the moon” when her son shared that he had finally found the right business opportunity for them.

“We’ve been wanting to start our own family business for quite some time now,” she says. “After my son introduced me to The Joint, I was just as impressed with the business model. Although I’m retired as a tax accountant, I also have a medical background and ran the front office for a neurologist. It was at that time I decided I didn’t like working with insurance companies because of all the hassles that came along with it. So, when I learned that The Joint didn’t require insurance, I was extremely happy.”

Joining The Joint’s franchise family and operating a business will be new for Jonathan and Carla Stampfli. The Joint has been helping entrepreneurs like the Stampfli’s thrive in business since 1999. With a proven business model that is straightforward to manage, and quick to scale, The Joint sets new owners up for success from the start by teaching them how to manage every aspect of the business. This includes everything from training, to site selection, to construction, to grand opening, and much more.

The Stampfli family credit The Joint’s R&D management team, Taylor Abrams and Barry Goodman, for their exceptional support and guidance during this time.

The Joint has a phenomenal support team,” says Carla Stampfli. “We’re excited to get our doors open, and, depending on how we do with these clinics, we definitely have plans to scale the business even more.”

Do I Need To Be A Chiropractor To Invest in The Joint Franchise?

Entrepreneurs with no experience in chiropractic industry excel with The Joint Chiropractic® franchise

You don’t need to be a chiropractor to invest in The Joint Chiropractic franchise.

In fact, the majority of our franchise owners have never had any experience in the chiropractic field or medical industry before joining our franchise family. However, all of our franchisees share one thing in common: a passion for chiropractic care.

For more than two decades, The Joint has been at the forefront of helping Americans find relief from pain. With more than 500 locations nationwide, our fast-growing chiropractic franchise has revolutionized access to chiropractic care by offering a convenient retail setting and concierge-style services including no appointments, no insurance hassles and accommodating hours of operation.

The Joint Employees

If you are looking to own a meaningful business that meets a tremendous need for pain management, The Joint is a best-bet investment. Here are a few reasons how The Joint will help you excel without any prior experience:

The Joint is a simple, efficient business to own and operate

At The Joint Chiropractic, we are passionate about helping our franchise owners excel in business. This starts with our simple-to-understand, easy-to-scale business model. Our clinics are designed for ease of operations and to keep costs low. You only need two to three employees to operate a clinic efficiently – a chiropractor and a front desk wellness coordinator. The Joint’s small footprint means lower rental possibilities even in the high-end strip centers that our clinics are placed.

The Joint is a consumer-friendly approach to chiropractic care, and that means that we’re designed to treat as many patients as possible on a day-to-day basis. We’re open on nights and weekends, there are no appointments, we accept walk-ins, and our membership model does away with the need for insurance. The ability to treat more patients increases the profit-potential of our clinics, and it also allows our doctors of chiropractic to help more people find relief from pain.

You can hire a chiropractor to help you run your business

The Joint is not only one of the fastest growing chiropractic franchises in the United States but its network is also the largest employer of chiropractors in the nation. Since you don’t have any chiropractic experience, we know you don’t have any experience hiring a chiropractor. This is where our exceptional leadership team excels as they will train and help you recruit a top chiropractor for your clinic. Chiropractors enjoy working for The Joint because we not only offer spinal adjustments, but we also offer a membership model instead of requiring insurance. As a result, chiropractors spend more time alleviating patients’ pain instead of haggling over payment with insurance companies.

“We’ve been successful without even having to market ourselves very much — people see our clinics next to their favorite stores or restaurants, and they come in curious,” says Chris Kemper, franchisee/manager of three The Joint locations in Nashville, Tennessee. “When they discover that we’re affordable and offer a membership model, it is very easy to win them over. Our model creates a pathway for our walk-in customers to return.”

Our chiropractic franchise offers unmatched support

Whether you have industry experience or not, all you need to have is good business acumen and The Joint will teach you the rest. After helping hundreds of entrepreneurs realize their dreams of business ownership, our chiropractic franchise has developed one of the most robust training platforms in the industry. We give you the resources and knowledge-base to know how to operate every aspect of your business from marketing, to how to effectively communicate with and hire chiropractors, and much more.

“My husband and I own eight clinics in the metropolitan Phoenix,” states Teresa Di Giuseppe, multi-unit and co-owner of The Joint franchises. “We were attracted to The Joint because of the ease of the business model: low overhead, minimal staff. We’re committed to providing the best chiropractic care and helping our patients achieve the lifestyle they want to live. We didn’t have any medical experience prior to franchising with The Joint, however, our business has proven to be successful and profitable because of the simplicity of the business model.”

Entrepreneur Magazine Names The Joint Chiropractic a Top Growth Franchise

The Joint ranks high on the esteemed publication’s list of the fastest growing franchise systems in 2020

Entrepreneur Magazine recently named The Joint Chiropractic®, one of the fastest-growing chiropractic franchises in the nation, as a Top Growth Franchise for 2020.

This highly competitive list recognizes the 150 companies with the greatest franchise unit growth in the United States and Canada, based on data submitted for the respected publication’s “Franchise 500” ranking. For this year’s list, the ranking is based on each brand’s new franchise-unit growth in the U.S. and Canada from July 2016 to July 2019. Thanks to our exceptional growth, The Joint Chiropractic was ranked No. 59.

In 2020, The Joint has opened 49 new clinics in the U.S. alone and sold 65 new franchise licenses. Additionally, The Joint sold two new Regional Developer Area agreements to facilitate expansion in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

“The reason why so many entrepreneurs and chiropractors are investing in The Joint is because our unit economics are so strong,” says Peter Holt, President and CEO at The Joint Chiropractic. “I’ve been building and managing franchise systems for 30 years and I have never seen such strong unit economics. On top of that, pain isn’t going away. We’re looking for ways to manage our pain in a holistic way and that is what The Joint provides.”

The Joint Sign

As we continue to grow, we look forward to welcoming more entrepreneurs to The Joint Chiropractic franchise in 2020.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Helped Americans Move with Free Adjustments

Fast growing chiropractic franchise gives away $1.7 million worth of free adjustments to help Americans relieve pain during pandemic

The Joint Chiropractic®, the fast growing chiropractic franchise, has a mission to help people find fast, affordable and convenient relief from back and neck pain. During the pandemic, our services are more relevant than ever.

This is why The Joint gave away $1.7 million worth of free adjustments to help get Americans moving and relieve pain during the crisis. This June giveaway brought over 60,000 new patients to The Joint’s franchise clinics, successfully introducing them to The Joint’s revolutionary model of chiropractic care.

“Since the onset of COVID-19, nearly two-thirds of Americans were forced to work from home, wreaking havoc on their spines,” says Peter D. Holt, President and CEO of The Joint Corp. “It’s clear from our results that thousands of Americans felt a need to incorporate chiropractic care into their healthcare routines to maintain overall health and wellness. As an essential healthcare service, we are committed to being there for our patients when and where available during the pandemic, as they seek relief from pain and for their wellbeing.”

the joint chiropractic franchise

For our franchise owners, The Joint was deemed an essential business in most states across the country – meaning that our clinics in those states were allowed to continue operation. This is critical, as franchise owners were able to continue to generate revenue, and most importantly, help their patients find relief from pain, as much of the rest of the economy was shut down.

The Joint has also continued to experience strong growth during 2020, with nearly 20 new openings and several more planned for the months to come.

The Joint is really connecting with entrepreneurs and chiropractors who are seeking a proven business model that can dramatically improve lives,” says Eric Simon, Vice President of Franchise Sales & Development with The Joint Chiropractic. “We’re incredibly proud that our franchise owners continue to see more people than traditional chiropractic clinics by a large margin, and our continued nationwide growth is a reflection of both the profit potential of this business and our ability to connect with consumers in growing numbers. For entrepreneurs, The Joint is a brand that you invest in if you want to make an impact.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise President and CEO Peter Holt Featured in Forbes Magazine

Spotlighted as an industry thought leader, Holt explains how The Joint Chiropractic® is disrupting chiropractic care for the better

chiropractic franchiseWith more than 30 years of experience in the industry, no one may understand the challenges and methodology of overseeing a franchise system better than Peter Holt, President and CEO of The Joint Chiropractic®, the fastest-growing chiropractic franchise in the nation.

This wasn’t lost on Dave Know, senior contributor CMO Network at Forbes magazine, who recently featured Holt in the article “How Franchising Can Transform A Fragmented Industry.” In the article, Holt explains how The Joint strengthened its franchising community, how franchising is a great opportunity for fragmented industries, and outlines the challenges and methodology of franchising.

Here’s an excerpt of the article:

Dave Knox: At The Joint, you have been part of re-energizing the brand. How did your deep background in franchising help in this effort?

Peter Holt: Franchising is not an industry. Franchising is simply a methodology, a way you can expand a business. And like so many businesses, we all have different options for expansion, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. And what has been interesting to me is there are probably over 230 different industries that utilize the methodology of franchising. In my own career, I have been involved with industries as varied as frozen desserts at Tasti D-Lite and the postal business with Mail Boxes Etc. Now with chiropractic care, you can look at that and say, “what on earth do all of those different businesses have in common?” Concept wise, very little, but in terms of the practice of how to build it through and manage it through a franchise system, an enormous amount.

And so that experience you have gained from each one of those different concepts can be leveraged as you go forward to that next concept. I often talk about when you are building and managing your franchise system, it’s really important to understand that you are actually running two parallel businesses that are unrelated. What I mean is that you are working on a “C” concept, in this case chiropractic care, and then you are working with methodology and that’s franchising. And the methodology is agnostic to the concept, but understanding both of them is the best way you can really maximize the opportunity of what that concept is.

Coming to The Joint, the concept was sound, but it had a couple of challenges. First, it was taking the franchise units 18 to 24 months to reach breakeven. Based on my background in small box retail, I knew we needed to get that break even to be between 6 to 9 months. We spent a lot of time focusing on how to improve the time to break even so our franchisees would not run out of cash.

The other two challenges were the corporate units. While Corporate was very focused on these corporate-owned units, the franchisees stopped feeling the love. If you have spent any time in the franchise model, if your franchisee stops feeling love, that’s a tough place to be. We needed to revitalize and improve on the relationship with our franchise community. The other issue related to the corporate units was that these units were underperforming and putting a financial pressure on the company. So with my background in franchising, I had to fix the Corporate Units both in terms of their profitability, as well as the negative impact they were having on our relationship with the franchisees.

Knox: The Chiropractic industry is largely made up of solo practitioners. Why do you think the franchise model was such an opportunity?

Holt: There are so many highly fragmented industries that can really benefit from the franchise model. If you look at the chiropractic industry in this country, it’s about a $15 billion industry, and it is absolutely dominated by the 40,000 independent practitioners. We are sitting here as The Joint, we have 530 clinics open in 34 States. We have roughly about 1,400 doctors under our umbrella and we are the largest provider of chiropractic care in the country. That is possible, specifically, by utilizing that franchise model. And I think you can do this in hair care, in ice cream shops, and all kinds of industries where there is economy to scale that you create when you can increase the size of that overall network and leverage the experience.  Franchising is the business of accelerated learning. If you are an independent concept, you are growing every year and applying those learnings to your business to be more profitable and more successful. In our franchise model, we have 530 versions of that learning taking place. Each one of those franchisees is bringing their own expertise and experience into the field and we can see best practices. We can take that and format it in a way that we can roll it out across the whole network and everybody benefits. This accelerated learning is inherent in the franchise model.

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Continues Expansion With 41 New Openings

Fast growing chiropractic franchise is having a banner year for growth despite the pandemic

The Joint Chiropractic®, the fast growing chiropractic franchise, opened 41 new clinics from January through August of this year – and this while in the midst of a national pandemic that brought the entire economy to a halt.

The reason for The Joint’s continued growth? Classified as an essential business in almost the entire country, The Joint’s clinics were able to continue to operate during the shutdown. From an investment perspective, the classification as an essential business, in most instances, can offer a significant advantage – as business owners are less impacted by economic uncertainty.

And The Joint is an essential business. The Joint helps millions of people recover from neck and back pain, and has helped make access to chiropractic more accessible, convenient and affordable than ever before. The Joint’s strong growth and sales performance is a testament to just how essential our clinics are to the people who rely on us for ongoing wellness.

By only allowing walk-in appointments and setting convenient hours for working people, our exciting chiropractic franchise provides patients with treatment when it’s convenient for them.

Why Owning a Chiropractic Franchise Is A Wise Choice For Entrepreneurs Post Pandemic

Director of Chiropractic and Compliance of the nation’s fastest-growing chiropractic franchise explains why The Joint Chiropractic® Franchise is a best-bet investment

Chiropractic care is a needed business that helps more than 31 million Americans living with back pain. Fortunately, this is where The Joint Chiropractic, the fastest-growing chiropractic franchise in the nation, outshines the competition. Founded in 1999, The Joint excels at helping entrepreneurs prosper in a business that makes access to convenient, affordable and chiropractic care obtainable for millions.

With more than 500 locations across the country, our thriving chiropractic franchise is growing due to our unique ability to introduce millions of Americans to chiropractic care, but also because of our easy-to-understand business model, as well as our low barriers to ownership, making us a best-bet investment.

And the industry has taken notice. Recently, Entrepreneur magazine ranked our dynamic chiropractic franchise on their prestigious Franchise 500 list. This is the fifth consecutive year that The Joint has made the list. The best part? There’s plenty of room to grow in the booming $15 billion chiropractic industry. This is why The Joint is seeking savvy entrepreneurs and chiropractors looking to convert their existing business to join our franchise as we continue to expand across the nation.

In this interview, Dr. Steven Knauf, Executive Director of Chiropractic and Compliance with The Joint Chiropractic, shares everything from how our chiropractic business model is designed to help our franchisees maximize profitability, to why franchising is more attractive than ever and what makes The Joint Chiropractic a best-bet investment.

The Joint Employee Giving Information

How has The Joint being an essential business helped its franchises owners through this unfortunate time?

Dr. Knauf: A lot of businesses have felt the huge impact of losing revenue, having to close, and terminate or furlough employees and we’ve not experienced that. We haven’t because we are an essential business. That means throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to remain open and available to provide our services and care to the patients who really need us. It really limited the impact on our business because what we saw clearly demonstrated throughout this time is that chiropractic care is highly valued by patients who need it. That is really what has contributed to the strength and stability of our overall model.

The Joint’s ability to provide affordable and convenient chiropractic care is really a true differentiator, especially at a time like this because patients need your services whether there is a pandemic happening or not. Would you agree?

DS: Certainly. I think the best thing to do is to look at it from the consumer standpoint. They themselves might have been those employees who were let go, furloughed, or have to work from home full-time. For myself, I even did it for a bit. I was working off of my kid’s desk because I didn’t have a proper work setup at home. You experience a lot of different kinds of stress just going through this situation, including financial stress. So being able to offer an option for patients to still access the care that they need is really important, even though their financial situation may have changed.

How does chiropractic care help people who are stuck at home, stressed out, and may not be moving as much as they should be?

Dr. Knauf: In conversing with some people, the pandemic is creating a more sedentary lifestyle than what many of us are used to. It’s a longer time spent not moving and more time spent watching Netflix or some sort of screen. Additionally, you may not be eating well, especially if you have access to food delivery services, which is a contributor to how your body reacts and responds to stress. What chiropractic does at its core is it allows your body to react to its environment. Your brain and your nervous system have to be able to sense all of the things you’re throwing at it and then it has to be able to react appropriately. Chiropractic care restores motion, allows your body to deal with stress and get back to the things you love to do. That’s why recovery is going to be important and that’s why we’re focusing on access to care as people are getting back into their normal routines because they’re going to need it.

Even before the pandemic The Joint was introducing chiropractic care to millions of people who hadn’t tried it before. Now that the economy is reopening, do you think that the focus on health and wellness is going to increase going forward?

Dr. Knauf: I think we’re already trending that way — even without COVID-19 hitting. I think society was really starting to embrace health and wellness more than it had traditionally, which is a growing trend that was supporting our brand’s growth. However, what’s highlighted in this current situation is the value of health and wellness, and how resilient it can make your body if you’ve adopted these measures. So I have to believe that our patients who have been with us prior to this have weathered the storm much better than those who hadn’t seen chiropractors or hadn’t valued health and wellness before this. As we move forward, I think we’re going to see a lot of consumers being educated by concepts like ours. Maybe you didn’t take advantage of us, or didn’t understand what we’re about, but this situation has alerted us to how valuable our health and wellness is, which is why now is the time to start taking it seriously. The best thing is that it’s not too late — you can get into a routine, start taking better care of yourself and get on a better track for overall health and wellness.

In the coming month, The Joint is offering free adjustments to people who haven’t tried it before. After coming out of months of being sedentary, being stressed out and not knowing what to expect, do you think a lot of people are going to need the services The Joint provides?

Dr. Knauf: Absolutely. I think there’s going to be a lot of awareness. I think most people have some kind of ache or pain happening that they didn’t have prior to this situation. So it’s our responsibility to educate them on the options that they have for getting back on track. Moreover, it’s really a responsibility of ours as a leader within the profession to provide this offer. There is no larger clinic system of chiropractic in the world that is able to provide a service to people that they need, especially in a time like this. It’s an obligation for us because we have to be there to serve our communities and get them back on track.

As the largest provider of chiropractic care in the world, franchise owners and chiropractors with The Joint have the advantage of being part of a franchise system that works hard to ensure they have all of the necessary resources they need to make it through these times. What’s your take on that?

Dr. Knauf: What’s important is that everyone stays safe through this entire time period. Safety and support has to be top of mind and we’ve really embraced that safety and support, to keep us directionally focused on how we’re going to get through this. I’m incredibly honored that our doctors have taken up the call to continue to serve and deliver the care from the profession they chose to join. It’s important to us that we provide our staff and their patients all of the tools of support that we can so they can practice safely within our clinics.

Even through this pandemic, The Joint has continued to grow, add new franchise owners and open new clinics. How does that make you feel to be a part of a brand that is not only  resilient, but also helps entrepreneurs open a business that is necessary to their communities?

Dr. Knauf:  It’s an amazing feeling to be a part of a company that is able to grow through the services that we provide in such a trying time like this. I’ve conversed with many chiropractors around the profession — whether it’s associations, people from school, other colleagues, private practice owners — and that’s not the story for every chiropractor out there. Unfortunately, chiropractors are losing their business, just like other small businesses are. And it’s incredibly sad to see that they didn’t have access to robust support for their business to make it through a situation like this. What’s heartening is that there is a proven business model with proven systems for chiropractors where they can receive the necessary tools and support, which will help them not only weather difficult situations, but also continue to grow in them.

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Review: Q&A with Barrett McNabb

How a military veteran took the skills he developed in the services and put them to work in his multi-unit chiropractic franchise

When Barrett McNabb made the decision to go into business for himself after leaving the military, he knew that if he applied what he learned during his time in the service, he could be successful in a chiropractic franchise.

The only question he had to answer was what type of business he would open. During his time in the service, his wife sustained back injuries after an automobile accident. As part of the settlement, she received a few treatments at a chiropractic clinic to help her recover – and it worked. At this time, the couple was stationed in Morocco, where McNabb was a Foreign Area Officer, and on multiple occasions they flew back to the United States so that she could visit the chiropractor.

Once the couple moved back to Texas, the treatments continued. This is how they came upon The Joint Chiropractic, the business that would ultimately allow McNabb to realize his own dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur.

“I remember it vividly – I was brushing my teeth,” McNabb says. “My wife came in and said there’s a place called The Joint that offers four visits for $49 – could she try it? With a deal like that, I said go for it! She loved the experience, and one day, I asked if I could go in with her. I was immediately struck by how simple and efficient the business model was. I asked my wife, ‘Is this something we could do?’ She was totally on board, and we went from there.”

McNabb opened his first clinic with The Joint in the Houston metropolitan area soon after. But he wasn’t alone. As a leader in the military, McNabb knew that his success was predicated on getting the support of his family behind him. His wife is a Certified Public Accountant, and her significant skills would come in handy to help manage the backend of the business. McNabb also asked his mother, a highly experienced sales rep in Big Pharma who also had a MBA to join him. He knew that her ability to speak the language of business would prove to be essential as the business grew.

Joint chiropractic franchise - spinal adjustments

“I told my mother, who was getting ready to retire – I can’t retire, neither can you,” McNabb says, laughing. “I wanted to have my family working with me, as we have unique skills in different areas, and I knew that we would share the same goals. It’s been incredible to have them with me in this business, and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Today, McNabb owns four clinics with The Joint Chiropractic, as well as two acupuncture businesses. He credits his ability to scale up to multi-unit ownership with the skills he acquired in the military. In fact, he’s currently writing a book on how the military prepares soldiers to become entrepreneurs by preparing them to be battle-ready.

For example, his approach to marketing his business is exactly the same as the way the military trains soldiers to patrol an area during wartime. As a retired military officer in the 82nd Airborne Division, who had served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, McNabb understands marketing in a way that few do – but that many can benefit from.

“As a soldier, we find the enemy on the battlefield, define the operating environment, describe the battlefield effects, analyze the threat, and identify the course of action,” McNabb says. “If you change the word enemy to customer, which is unfair to the customer (laughter), you can really come up with a winning marketing strategy in your territory. This is what we’ve done, and it’s really paid off. The book I’m writing now will explain how I’ve been effective at translating the skills I’ve learned in the military into a life in business.”

McNabb’s business savvy is paying off in a big way. Only two years after he opened his first clinic in 2015, he was named The Franchisee of The Year by The Joint. His ability to develop a strong culture in his clinics where every employee shares the same goals, as well as his ability to delegate duties amongst his wife, mother, managers, and chiropractors has allowed him to continue to scale. McNabb recently bought the rights to two additional territories in Houston, and he’s always looking for opportunities to continue to grow.

“I hope to keep expanding,” He says. “The future is just so bright. Only 10% of the population has even experienced chiropractic care.”

McNabb’s success in business is an enormous achievement from an already highly accomplished individual. By joining a brand that allows him to deepen his leadership skills and emphasize teamwork, the sky’s the limit for McNabb.

“When I left the army, I was homesick,” he says. “I didn’t know if I was going to find an organization that was going to satisfy the level of camaraderie that I had in the army but I found that in The Joint. I love being a part of this brand and I love what we’re able to do to help people.”
