Multi-unit franchisee opens up about what she loves about life in a chiropractic franchise
Stacie Shakarian is a co-franchisee with six clinics in Arizona and California with her husband Aaron, who is also a Doctor of Chiropractic. Stacie decided to pursue a career with The Joint Chiropractic after many years in corporate America. She is deeply passionate about her new role as a chiropractic franchise owner because of how many people she gets to help as one of the most successful franchise owners in the system.

But the Shakarians are always looking to grow, planning to open three more clinics this year and in the process of purchasing four licenses in their home state of Michigan.
In this conversation, Stacie talks about how she got involved in The Joint Chiropractic franchise, what she loves about her businesses, and why investing in The Joint is the best decision she and her husband have made on a professional level.
Where were you working before The Joint?
Stacie Shakarian: “I was working for General Motors, and I did not envision myself leaving. I’m from Michigan and I enjoyed the job. And that’s where a lot of my friends worked. But The Joint was too good of an opportunity to pass up.”
How did you find The Joint?
Stacie: “General Motors moved me to Arizona, which is the corporate headquarters of The Joint. My husband is a chiropractor and he was recruited by The Joint. And he went to work for The Joint’s corporate office and was so excited with the business model because he felt it was very relevant for the times.”
Why is that?
Stacie: “Slowly over the years, health insurances weren’t covering chiropractic. If someone were in a car accident, you would sometimes be waiting two years to receive a check from the insurance company. So, it became more and more difficult to be a chiropractor. But The Joint is a membership, cash-based business model perfect for the times right now we’re in.”
How is The Joint different from traditional chiropractic franchise clinics?
Stacie: “Traditional chiropractic clinics are not walk-in. And they’re not usually open extended hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. And most are not open seven days a week. So, The Joint has really capitalized on the needs of people nowadays. Most people do not have time to schedule an appointment. And the fact that it’s open seven days a week; we’re very busy on Sundays.”

Where are your clinics located?
Stacie: “We have three in Arizona and three in Ventura County, California. Our clinics are in very popular retail centers that are usually featured on the news. We always like to make it to where a family can be out shopping and then stop in The Joint and then continue on with their day.”
And how has business been?
Stacie: “Financially, we’re making more money than I ever thought that we would make in our careers. It’s been exciting, that’s why we keep expanding, because patients want to come to every clinic we open. It just grows very quickly because people see the value in it. But it’s also been very exciting for us to be able to provide for our families.”
What are your long-term goals?
Stacie: “My hopes are to just keep growing and to keep identifying the needs of our patients. And we’re in the process of purchasing four franchises in Michigan. It’s exciting to be able to bring The Joint back to the Detroit area.”

NFL Star Gives Shout Out to The Joint Chiropractic Franchise After Big Win
Tampa Bay Buccaneers team captain, linebacker is passionate about helping others find pain relief through chiropractic care
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers team captain and linebacker Kevin Minter is the newest owner of a Super Bowl LIV championship ring. Off the field, Minter is passionate about chiropractic care as a multi-unit owner with The Joint Chiropractic.
As a franchise partner with The Joint, Minter naturally found his investment not only in his wheelhouse but also something he has always understood as important. Minter has put some wear and tear on his body, to say the least, since the young age of 10 when he started playing football, but he credits chiropractic care as being a major part of his routine and ability to perform at the top level.

Minter took to Instagram Live for a recent interview with digital outlet InsideHook to highlight his Super Bowl LIV win. Reporter Charles Thorp covered everything from quarantine training and how he recovers to his plans now that the longest season ever is finally over.
In the interview, he explains he was in Arizona for the Regional Developer conference with The Joint Chiropractic when he found out that Tom Brady would be his starting quarterback for the 2020 season.
Between Zoom meetings with his new teammates and trainer, using multiple gyms, and the great outdoors, Minter’s preparation for the 2020 season was certainly different – however, it would prove to be just as grueling.

“In professional sports, it’s common to talk about going hard, getting big, and getting strong,” said reporter Thorp. “But no one talks about the chiropractor and how much alignment actually is a key factor to perform at such a high level.”

To which Minter responded, “My hips, neck, and back basically get in multiple accidents every day. That’s the nature of the sport and my position. My body needs to be in alignment because it is simply safer. It’s a large part of my healthcare and ultimately why I invested in The Joint.”

The Joint Chiropractic Franchise Review: Meet Gordon, Marvin, and Mia Thornton
How a family of entrepreneurs became one of the most successful franchise owners in the The Joint Chiropractic network
Gordon and Marvin Thornton always knew that they would be in business together – they just needed the right opportunity at the right time. As brothers, they watched each other’s careers with pride from afar – and sometimes very far indeed, as Marvin was often abroad serving in the U.S. military, while Gordon became successful as an entrepreneur.
Gordon was a multi-unit franchise owner with Massage Envy when he decided to invest in The Joint Chiropractic®. While both brands operated in the booming health & wellness segment, The Joint allowed Gordon the ability to own a business that provided an affordable, convenient, and accessible way for people to heal from back and neck pain.

“You’re helping people feel better every day,” he says. “I’ve seen what chiropractic care did for my wife – it’s helped her treat her pain issues holistically and effectively. It’s hard not to be passionate about owning a business that makes this big of an impact on people’s lives. It’s also far easier to run than other businesses I’ve owned – McDonald’s was very hard to operate and even Massage Envy was a lot harder.”
Marvin was stationed in Afghanistan when he got the call from his brother asking him to join him in his new venture with The Joint. Seven years later, when Marvin retired as a Colonel with 28 years of service, it was finally the right time for the brothers to go into business together.
“I remember reading the brochure when I was stationed overseas and I couldn’t wait to be a part of it,” Marvin says. “When I retired after 28 years in the military, it was the right time to get involved. I loved the simplicity of the business. I loved how accessible it was to customers. The Joint has truly opened up the benefits of chiropractic care to a much larger extent than ever before.”

Spreading chiropractic care across the DMV
Now, the brothers have eight clinics together in the Washington, D.C., area, and are now, along with Gordon’s wife, Mia, the Regional Developers for Maryland and Washington, D.C.
“There’s so much potential for entrepreneurs to do well in this business,” Mia says. “The unit-level economics are outstanding and there’s an incredible demand for holistic pain management. We’ve seen our clinics continue to grow and the pandemic proved just how essential we are to our patients. The Joint provides exceptional support in real estate, marketing, and more, and we’re also here to guide entrepreneurs at a local level.”
With plans to develop up to 30 clinics in the Maryland and Washington, D.C., area over the next few years, this family business is looking towards a bright future of their own making.
